  • Entertaining and meal preparation; each is as important as the other for this clients’ new kitchen. The concept needed to complement the architectural integrity of the home while incorporating many aspects of function and storage. Although space was enhanced with corner windows offering wonderful light and beautiful views, they diminished the useable area for wall cabinets and appliances. Tall storage elements made up for lost space as well as complemented the high ceilings and arched window. A large island further increased storage while allowing ample countertop for a secondary work area.
  • An original focal point of this kitchen was the arched window and barreled ceiling. Carrying this theme through out the kitchen led to the creation of a dramatic curved front bronze hood and complementing thick curved bronze countertop on the island. That detail was repeated with the tall glass dish storage cabinet, curved wall base cabinetry, and a 42” high seating countertop.
  • The kitchen was divided into two preparation and clean-up areas. One to work for an everyday lifestyle which involved minimal cooking, the other for entertaining large groups of people.
  • For light meal preparation the client used mainly the microwave and refrigerator with the dishwasher and island sink all being located in close proximity. This is allowed easy access for quick food preparation and clean-up.
  • For entertaining large groups of people, the seating area adjacent to the range and the curved island countertop offer areas to linger as well as ample serving countertop for often catered events.
  • Additional features to this already well planned kitchen? A cleverly hidden desk and message center built into the back of the tall curved dish storage cabinet. A small bonus space with angled corners and an exterior entrance that turned up a cozy table and bench seat. Adjacent to the range, the tall pantry was matched in detail to the fully integrated refrigerator. Limestone brick-layered tiles pulled the warm cherry wood and metal materials together and carried the look above to the arched window. A small bronze shelf behind the range further enhanced the details. The end result is a design with balance and function.
